Halloween pics,a little late....oops.. And a funny story!

Here are my cuties in their Halloween costumes.  We had such a crazy day that day, I'm just now getting around to put these photos up.  The family reunion pictures did it for me.....with all of the resizing and everything.  We ended up going trick-or-treating and had two of our nephews along with us.  It was funny, because Kohen had not been trick or treating....so we had to teach him that he couldn't just take people's candy out of their basket.....and that we must say thank you after getting your candy.

Kohen probably had a stomach ache....He didn't care about getting anymore candy after about 4 stops.  He wanted to go to work on it right away.  This is the position we found him in constantly. 

Something else I wanted to put in here to be recorded for memories.....

The other day we had to stop in the middle of the highway to pick up a little bunny that someone had hit.  You know, us being the farm family and all, we can save any animal; or so that's what Dillon and Mallory think.  So here I go picking up this little bunny to take home with us to see if we can nurse him back....and it was obvious he wasn't going to make it.  He probably had some internal injuries.  I told Shane that we needed to put him down, and Dillon happened to see Shane grab his gun and head out the back door.  Dillon went to tears and asked Shane if he was going to kill his pet rabbit ( mind you, we haven't even had this rabbit a whole day).  Shane took pity on Dillon and said that we would see if the rabbit could pull through.  I then took it upon myself to try to explain that it wasn't something that we like to do, but that when we know an animal is going to die and is suffering, it is best to put them out of their suffering.  All the while I'm telling Dillon this, Mallory is sitting there saying not one word.  All of a sudden, she looks at me and asks with a terrified look in her face...." But mom, you're not going to kill us if we get sick are you?"  You want to talk about shocking me speechless.... I of course then had to try to explain it even further so our sweet little 5 year old could understand.  I hate that they have to know these things, but it is part of our lives here at our farm.  We have many animals, and sometimes things happen that are way beyond our control.  I just found it funny later on how serious Mallory was about it....She was truly worried.  Bless her little heart!

Family reunion

We had our first family reunion Saturday at my grandmother's home in Leaf, MS.  We had a great day for it!  The sun was shining and the temperature was in the low 70's.  Some of the family wasn't able to make it this year, but we ended up having around 25 attend.  I'm so glad that we were able to visit with each other and catch up with what's been going on with everyone.

Some of the adults got a game going with the kids in the backyard.  It ended up being called redneck volleyball.  It was a game sort of like volleyball, only the net ended up being fence.  The kids had a blast; I even think the grown ups had a good time too!

I'm looking forward to next year!  I hope we are able to continue doing this every year.  I think some people these days are just too busy to have get togethers, but it's important to me that our kids know their extended families!

Getting ready for tomorrow...

My family is having a reunion tomorrow for my mother's side of the family.  This will be our first ever get together, and I'm super excited.  I've been in the kitchen tonight preparing dishes that I plan to take.  I going to take crock pot chicken and dressing.  This is one of the most requested dishes that I make to take to get togethers.   

I've also made a caramel-pecan cheesecake pie.  It is DEEELICIOUS and super easy to make....You mixcream cheese, sugar, eggs, pecans and caramel ice cream topping  in a pastry shell and bake.  Of course it goes in certain steps, but super easy...My kind of dessert! 

My kitchen looks like a tornado came through.  You can barely see the counter top.  I'm a very messy cook.  I don't mind the cooking at all, but I hate the clean up afterwards.

Also I am going to take Mallory's favorite food; deviled eggs.  Thanks to Mrs. Debbie for bringing me so many fresh eggs.  They came in very handy tonight with all of the dishes I am preparing.  There's nothing better than farm fresh eggs!

Shane, Dillon and Mallory are watching an instructional video on how to do the Fushigi.  Dillon told his grandma BB that he "needed" that magic ball.  So she ordered it and he has yet to figure out how to do any of the tricks.  Shane decided to watch the video and see if he can do any of them.  He said that it seems to him like the whole thing was a scheme to make a lot of money (in other words....a total rip- off). 

Can I do it?

Yesterday I decided that I was going to cut out my drinking of sweet iced tea.  Recently my mother in law has found out that she is a diabetic, as well as my mother.  They each have told me that you can get used to tea without the sugar....It's such a southern thing to have a good cold glass of sweet iced tea!  I have "quit"  my habit of drinking Diet Mountain Dew a few months ago.....Now I'm on to the sweet tea.  We all could drink a little more water I think.  I'll be posting more about one of the main reasons I am quitting sweet tea cold turkey!  So far, today was my first day, and I have done well.  We'll see how it goes!

Getting ready for pecans

The pecans are almost ready to fall and be picked up!  Last year we had a pretty good pecan season.  I think we picked over 200 lbs off of 3 trees.  This year I hope to get some to put up in the freezer for those yummy pecan pies and Christmas goodies....I'm just not looking forward to all of the time spent on my hands and knees picking up those things.  My body is getting older and starting to feel it too ;)

Just playing around

A couple of weeks ago I took the kids out to the back pasture with me to check on some of our bucklings.  They decided they wanted to run and play, so I took some pictures of them in the afternoon sunlight.  It was such a beautiful day that day...I was going to get a close up of Dillon and Mallory lying in the grass, but those two monkeys started playing around.....and these pictures are the result of them having fun.  I think these have ended up being my favorite.  They are truly having a ball just being silly with each other.  A rare moment caught on camera!  I enjoy those moments when they do come around!
